Terms of use
Effective date: November 6, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Three Little Geese LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company ("we", "us", "our"), which makes the app "A&P Test Prep by the Book", also called "A&P by the Book" (the "app"): the web app at app.mechanicbythebook.com and, once they are released, the Android and iPhone apps. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the web app in your browser, and to install and use the Android or iPhone app on devices you own or control, for your own study, as allowed by the rules of the store you got it from. You may not copy the question bank, republish or resell the questions or explanations, or use them to build another product. You may not try to get around the subscription.
Apple's standard licence agreement also applies to copies from the App Store.
2. A study aid, not the FAA's test
The app is an independent study aid for the FAA aviation mechanic knowledge tests: General, Airframe and Powerplant. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Federal Aviation Administration. Its questions are original practice questions written from public FAA publications and federal regulations. They are not questions from any FAA test, and the practice exams are not the FAA's tests. Each practice exam has the number of questions, time limit and pass mark of the FAA's test for that subject; its questions are the app's own. Its figures include figures from the FAA's testing supplement (FAA-CT-8080-4G), but the figures the FAA uses on its tests may be different ones.
3. No promise of a pass
We do not promise that you will pass any knowledge test, reach any score, or receive a certificate or rating. How you do on the app's practice exams does not predict your result on the FAA's tests.
4. Accuracy and corrections
Every question cites the FAA source it was written from and quotes the words that settle its answer, and each was checked against that source. Errors are possible, and rules and publications change. The FAA source itself is always the authority: if the app and the current rule or FAA publication disagree, follow the rule or publication.
If you think a question, answer, explanation or figure is wrong, use "Report a problem with this question" in the app, or email [email protected] with the wording of the question and what you believe is wrong. Every report is checked against the source, and what is wrong is corrected in an update.
5. Not for maintenance work
The questions, explanations, figures, lessons and excerpts in the app are for study only. They may be out of date, and they are not maintenance data: they must not be used to perform, inspect, approve or record maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs or alterations on any aircraft or part. For real work, use the current manufacturer's instructions, approved data and the current rules.
6. Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation
The web app is free to open. For each of the three tests, the free sample has 30 questions, a 20-question mini exam drawn from them, and 3 lessons; the glossary is free too. You may take the sample's mini exams as often as you like. In the web app, the free lessons and the glossary are open without an account; after your first 10 answers, the sample's questions, mini exams and flashcards need a free account (email address only). A subscription unlocks, for all three tests, all 2,864 questions, the full timed practice exam for each test, and all lessons and flashcards.
- There are two plans: $19.99 a month, or $79.99 a year. One subscription covers all three tests. Prices are in US dollars. The price shown at the time you buy is the price that applies.
- There is no free trial.
- A subscription renews automatically, for the same period and at the same price, until you cancel it. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel before the current period ends.
- Deleting an app, or clearing a browser, does not cancel a subscription.
- If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Bought by card on the website
- You buy in the web app, signed in to your free account. The subscription is kept with that account. The card form is provided by RevenueCat, and the payment is taken by Stripe, our payment processor. Three Little Geese LLC is the seller.
- Your card is charged when you confirm the purchase, and again at the start of each new period until you cancel. The price is in US dollars. Any tax due is shown before you pay.
- For a yearly plan, we email your account's address about 30 days before each renewal.
- You can cancel at any time. In the web app, open the "You" tab, then "Membership", and choose "Manage or cancel subscription", or use the link in your receipt. Cancelling stops the subscription from renewing. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. The support page lists the steps.
- A subscription that is still renewing must be cancelled before you can delete your account.
Bought in an app store
- When the Android and iPhone apps are released, a subscription bought in one of them is charged to your Google Play or Apple account when you confirm the purchase. The store may add tax.
- You cancel in your store account settings, not by emailing us and not by deleting the app. Allow at least a day before the end of the period when you cancel.
- If we change a price, the store will tell you beforehand and, where the store requires it, ask for your agreement.
Purchases in Google Play or the App Store are handled by Google or Apple under their own terms.
7. Refunds
Bought by card on the website
This part applies to a subscription you bought by card on this website. We take that payment ourselves, through our payment processor, so these are our terms and not a store's.
- You can cancel at any time, in the web app: open the "You" tab, then "Membership", and choose "Manage or cancel subscription". Cancelling stops the subscription from renewing. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Payments already made are not refunded, in whole or in part, except where the law requires a refund. That includes a period you cancelled part-way through, and a period you did not use.
- If you were charged in error (for example charged twice, or charged after you had cancelled), email [email protected] from the address of your account and say what happened. A charge made in error is corrected.
Bought in an app store
Google or Apple takes the payment, so refunds are requested from and decided by that store. We cannot issue a refund ourselves for a store purchase. If the store sends you back to us, email us and we will help as far as the store lets us.
Nothing in this section takes away a right to a refund or to cancel that the law where you live gives you.
8. Intellectual property
The questions, answer choices, explanations, lessons, flashcards and original drawings in the app, and the app's design and code, are original works that belong to us. All rights are reserved except the licence in section 1.
Figures taken from the FAA's testing supplement, and quotations from FAA handbooks, advisory circulars and federal regulations, are works of the United States government. We claim no ownership of them. "FAA" is used only to describe the tests and the government's documents.
9. The app is provided "as is"
To the extent the law allows, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the app will be free of errors or always available. Some places do not allow some of these exclusions, so they may not all apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, neither we nor our members, managers, employees or agents are liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, test fees, retest fees or lost opportunities, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability, and theirs, to you for all claims about the app is limited to the amount you paid for a subscription to the app, on the website or in an app store, in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Apple
This section applies to the iPhone app, once it is released. These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. We are responsible for the app and its content, for maintenance and support, and for dealing with any claim about the app, including claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property. Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for the app.
Your licence is limited to use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store's usage rules allow. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
You confirm that you are not located in a country that is under a United States government embargo or designated by it as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must also follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile data agreement.
12. Who may use the app
The app is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 18, use the app and buy a subscription only with the permission of a parent or guardian.
13. Changes
We may update the app and these terms. We will post new terms on this page and change the effective date. If you keep using the app after the new terms take effect, you accept them. We may stop offering the app; if we do, subscriptions will not renew.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any rights you have under the consumer protection law of the place where you live remain in place. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
