FAA A&P practice answers: how each one is sourced and checked.
A wrong answer key is the worst mistake a question bank can make. This is how each question is built, and how you can check any of them yourself.
1. Written from the FAA's own publications
Every question is written from FAA publications and federal regulations:
- the Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbooks: General (FAA-H-8083-30B), Airframe (FAA-H-8083-31B) and Powerplant (FAA-H-8083-32B);
- Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR);
- the advisory circulars AC 43.13-1B and AC 43.13-2B;
- the FAA's testing supplement for aviation mechanics, FAA-CT-8080-4G, for figure questions.
We never cite a prep company, a blog or a forum. Every link goes to faa.gov or ecfr.gov.
2. The exact words that settle the answer
Every question shows the exact words of the FAA document that settle its answer, names the document and page, and links to it. You do not have to take our word for any answer: open the source and read it.
For example, the General sample question “What does 'fuselage station 185' mean?” is settled by these words:
“Fuselage station 185 indicates a location that is 185 inches from the datum of the aircraft.”
3. Checked against its source
Every question was checked against the source it cites: its answer, its wrong choices, its explanation and its quote. A question that its source does not support is not published. Figures are checked the same way.
4. The FAA's own figures
Figure questions use figures from the FAA's own testing supplement, FAA-CT-8080-4G, cited by figure number. They are not redrawn.
5. Original questions
Every question, choice and explanation is original. They are practice questions written from the FAA's publications, not questions from any FAA test. A question found to match a known FAA test question is rewritten or removed.
6. One defensible answer
Each question has exactly one choice that its source makes right. No trick wording and no “all of the above”. In the app the choices are shown in a shuffled order, so the right answer is not given away by its place.
7. Each test in its own format
Each practice exam matches the FAA format for its test: General is 60 questions in 2 hours; Airframe and Powerplant are 100 questions in 2 hours each; each needs 70% to pass. The questions are the app's own, and a practice score does not predict a result on the FAA's test.
8. Corrected in the open
If you find something wrong, “Report a problem with this question” under each explained answer reaches us. Every report is checked against the source, and every correction made after release is listed on the corrections page.
